We recently took a trip to Santa Cruz, CA for my brother-in-law’s graduation from UCSC. We decided to drive up the “scenic” route. Don’t get me wrong, it was beautiful but somehow we managed to take almost 10 hours to arrive to our destination. The drive was along the coast, the girls slept for most of the ride and were only awake for the breaks that we took. Once it got dark, it got pretty scary. We were driving up and around cliffs with nothing but the moonlight reflecting on the ocean. It was beautiful and terrifying all at the same time. We stayed at the Chamanade Resort & Spa (http://www.chaminade.com). The resort is a beautiful resort that completely embraced the feel of Santa Cruz and the beautiful Nature surrounding it. The rooms appeared to be recently remodeled and we’re spacious. Somehow, maybe because of the woods, it gave me the feeling of summer sleep-away camp. The staff was very friendly and even gave us a complimentary breakfast voucher when we were having trouble with our room key. I almost wish that we had stayed a little longer so that we could enjoy the area a bit more but we already had plans to keep moving toward San Francisco on the morning after my brother-in-law’s graduation.
We had breakfast on Sunday morning and then packed up and drove off to San Francisco. Marvin decided to book a hotel right on the Fisherman’s Wharf to make sure that we could walk around the area and still be relatively close to the hotel. We stayed at the Argonaut Hotel (http://www.argonauthotel.com) and boy did I fall in love! It was such beautiful, nautical, rustic décor. It was a great size for San Francisco hotel standards and the staff was incredibly helpful and polite to us! The girls were so comfortable and content in our room. Marvin picked up dinner and we ate in the room and he also woke up early the next morning to go pick up a delicious breakfast from the Fisherman’s Wharf as well. After breakfast, we packed up and headed to the golden gate bridge as our final stop before heading home.
Overall it was a very successful trip. We packed a few movies for Ariana to enjoy during the drive as well as snacks. We made a few stops to make sure we all stretched out a bit and the girls could have diaper changes to decrease the chance of fussiness.
Overall, we’re quite excited for longer trips like this!
